Denver Botanic Gardens Watercolor Workshops
Plan on moving your studio outside and joining me this summer at Botanic Gardens where there are overflowing, sun-drenched, flower-filled compositions. Dennis will show you how to take the overgrown, explosive arrangement of flowers and foliage and turn them into compelling watercolor paintings. You will be enchanted by the gardens as you learn how to compose, identify values, and mix colors. Some watercolor experience is necessary. and not recommended for absolute beginners.
Each day Dennis will demonstrate a painting and spend the rest of the day working individually with the students. Friendly critiques will also allow you to learn from each other. Your paintings will blossom as you capture the lush gardens in all their bountiful beauty.
You can bring your own lunch or the Beehive Cafe in the middle of the gardens has a nice menu.

Join Dennis Pendleton for a 3-day plein air watercolor workshop in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and begin to see the way an artist sees the great outdoors, Immersing yourself in the lush summertime mountain setting, learn everything from how to simplify the complex landscape to capturing sparkling color to creating a strong sense of light in your paintings. Steamboat Springs is rich in beautiful subject matter. From working ranches with old barns and haystacks to dramatic mountainscapes with quaking aspen trees, you will revel in the scenery. Whether you are new to watercolor painting or a more advanced student, Dennis will help push your skills to the next level through demonstrations, individual attention, and friendly critiques. Basic watercolor experience needed. Students are responsible for their lodging and meals. Dottie at the Steamboat Art Museum can make recommendations on lodging.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS COLORADO WINTER WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
March 25, 26, 27, 2022 - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
There is magic in the freshly fallen snow and brilliant winter sunshine in the mountains of Steamboat Springs. Capture this exquisite beauty of winter as you paint from reference material in the warm comfort of the art museum studio in this 3-day workshop. With scenes dominated by a white blanket of snow, the icy landscape is a compelling subject for the watercolor artist. Winter's frozen artistry is a great way to study values, color relationships, contrast, and composition. The Yampa and Elk River valleys abound with subject matter such as ranch scenes, aspen forests and mountain vistas. Dennis Pendleton will demonstrate daily as he explains how to simplify the subject matter, work with a strong value range, and make color choices. The workshop will include individual painting time, personalized instruction, and friendly group critiques. Come and thaw out on a chilly winter day painting crisp snow settings in watercolor. Basic watercolor experience needed. Students are responsible for their lodging and meals. Dottie at the Steamboat Art Museum can make recommendations on lodging.

Every spring I teach a Watercolor Workshop in Taos, New Mexico which is known for its legendary sunlight. We headquarter at the fabulous and historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House with its traditional adobe architecture and delicious gourmet buffet breakfast. Gathering in the dining room is the perfect beginning before we take off for our painting site. Enjoy daily demonstrations by Dennis that are designed to inspire your creative process. You will learn how to start, develop, and complete successful "plein air" paintings. Dennis enjoys working individually with everyone to nurture their unique painting style. The friendly and inspiring critiques will build camaraderie and confidence on your artistic journey. Come and let the magic and beauty in the "Land of Enchantment" be your muse!
Each student is responsible for their own lodging and meals and the price of the workshop is $550. A $100 nonrefundable deposit will hold your space and the remaining $450 is due by April 16th. This workshop is limited to 14 people and sold out the last 3 years.

NOTE: Please be aware that the elevation at Taos, New Mexico is 6,969 feet which is almost 2,000 feet higher than Denver, Colorado. Even though we park near the painting sites, there is a fair amount of walking and carrying supplies. If you have health issues, please consider this before signing up.

Your sketchbook is where the magic happens! Pick up your pencil and paint learning how to experiment with ideas and document your surroundings in this urban sketching workshop. Not only will your drawing skills improve but your sketchbook will give insight into the development of your own unique style. Because the urban scenes and subjects are unstated, you will discover how to work with dividing the page into smaller scenes instead of trying to reproduce the entire location. Discover how things you pass by everyday might become ideas for a new direction. The raw format of the sketchbook is sometimes more touching than a finished work so let your sketchbook rekindle your creativity.
