Taos Hollyhocks Watercolor Painting

This is a traditional old adobe home right in the middle of Taos New Mexico and a favorite subject for plein air painters. The lady who lives there watches like a hawk and if she sees an artist setting up on her property or on the road in front of her property she hustles out and demands $50. I was on the lookout for her when I painted this but she never showed and I managed to finish before she spotted me. I suspect she also has her neighbors call her if they see an artist. Taos is known for its hollyhocks and they grow all over town with little or no attention from the residents. Painting them is a pleasure and the dark colors in the window were a perfect backdrop.
