African Princess

I went to Africa with a group from the Denver Zoo and found this dancer in one of the villages we visited. I was captivated by her regal appearance and aloof attitude. Her head dress is a lions mane and her jewelry is beads and sea shells. I choose a deep green background to show off her painted face and costume. Our timing was fortuitous because the village was preparing for a ceremony and the costumes were fabulous. There were warriors in lion head dresses and red blankets and women singing and dancing in colorful dresses. Africa is like no place else I have visited and I loved the smell of the earth and all the animals and exotic colors. We were on the move all the time with no time to set up and paint but I came home with lots of photo’s and memories.
